Etymology: ME aparailen (v.) f. OF apareillier f. Rmc appariculare (unrecorded) make equal or fit, ult. f. L par equal APPARENT adj. 1 readily visible or perceivable. 2 seeming. Phrases and idioms apparent horizon see HORIZON 1b. apparent magnitude the magnitude, i.e. brightness, of a celestial body as seen from the earth (opp. absolute magnitude). apparent time solar time (see SOLAR adj.).
